Comments: (Songwriting Demo) Additional recording: January 1998 (P) 1996 Stevie Nicks Courtesy of Reprise Records. Stevie Nicks: "When I was asked to do a song for the movie "TWISTER," I had my friend Rebecca read the script. She then gave me the "Reader's Digest" condensed version so I could decide whether to do it or not. As she explained it to me, I realized that this really was...MY...story. It was about people who had extreme jobs...like chasing tornados, or being in a rock band. Anyway, I really hand-crafted this song for the movie. Unfortunately, if you saw the movie, you missed the song...and you certainly missed my message. So I decided to give you the original demo. Recorded on a 4-track Tascam by my assistant extraordinaire. I was living in a beach house overlooking Sunset Boulevard and the Pacific Coast Highway, and beyond that, always...the ocean. When I decided to put this in the "box set," I called Jesse V. (just last week), and he put some "vibe" mandolin on it. I love this song. I hope this time...you will understand it."

Comments: (Piano version) Stevie Nicks: With all the bootlegged piano demos of "Rhiannon" that are out there I decided to just go into a studio with a great grand piano, sit down, and play "Rhiannon" to you now, as she is today. I feel her wisdom is much evolved...and you will hear that in the piano, and in my voice. People say, "Do you really want to go through that again?" And all I can say is..."It is my pleasure..."")

ENCHANTED

When you open my book and you get to the place where the writing stops and the pictures start...you will notice Jimmy Choo Top Handle Replica Bags
Replica Celine Small Boston Bag
Hermes Replica Clutch Bags
Miu Miu Tote Replica Bags
that there are few words written over the photographs. Rather than put my perceptions on the photos, I would rother leave them open for your own interpretations. There are many photographs that you have never seen, and even I...haven't seen them in a very long time.

So we go to the other side of the mirror, my favorite place, once more, and I get to take my time, for the first time. A high price...for your luxury. And the woman may be awestruck, and the woman may truly care but the...woman is so tired that the...woman disappears...but not really, just short walks in the mists every once in a while...

It is hard picking songs off albums; it is like picking your favorite children...but I did my best. My choices seemed to have a flow so I hope I am right and that these are the songs that make you feel good.

There are some songs that went to movies, and were never heard from again...at least if you blinked, so here is your chance to hear them all the way through, and again, make up your own little movie. Maybe one of these songs may have an answer-in-waiting for you. I hope so -- you know I love that.

And then there are the songs that went on "b" sides in America, and the much more difficult to get... "b" sides that were NOT released in the United States, but went to Europe.

Sequencing all these songs was an interesting experience. I tried to create some kind of a "There is no time" vibe by going to the beginning and to the end and back -- like one intense recording session. You were there, you know how I feel. This is my heart. This is my work; it has been enchanting. I wouldn't change a thing.

And the days go by
Like a strand in the wind
In the web that is my own
I begin again...

I love you,
Stevie

"Don't listen to her, listen through her."

No matter what else was happening, at some point in the day or night, Stevie Nicks would sit hunched over the piano, her tiny hand picking out chords and notes, singing the poetry she'd written hours or years before.

The first time I heard her play "Rhiannon" at the acoustic piano, I couldn't breathe. She was living in a pink Hollywood house on a street called El Contento. It was originally built for silent film star Vilma Banke. I was a press agent then. My clients included Bearsville Records, run by my friend Paul Fishkin, who was dating Stevie at that point.

It was 1978 and Fleetwood Mac's album "Rumours" was the best-sellinq album in the world. Stevie was not as big a deal in Fleetwood Mac as she was to those of us who hung on every note. She and Lindsey Buckingham had merely been the most recent of a series of new members added to the band. The band's label, Warner Bros., never even bothered to sign up the newcomers as "leaving members" in the event they ever derided to make solo records.

Stevie loved Fleetwood Mac. She loved singing with them, and she loved what being in the band had done to her life. (It wasn't that long ago she had to eke out a living as a waitress at Clementine's.) But she was frustrated by the band as well. Their decision to exclude "Silver Springs" from the "Rumours" album was the last straw. ("Silver Springs" was the first single from "The Dance" reunion album which debuted at #1 across the board twenty years later. This song also garnered a '97 Grammy nomination for best pop vocal performance!)

So Fishkin, Stevie and I formed Modern Records (she hated the name). The company's sole asset was a contract for her solo albums. There were meetings, lawyers and recriminations.

Stevie moved to a Tudor house on Doheny Drive. And still, she sat at the piano and filtered her outer life into the zone of mist and poetry from which her songs would emerge. In between the long stretches of recording "Tusk" with the Mac, Stevie would write and tape songs for those of us lucky enough to be in her circle of friends and colleagues. She made everyone feel special just by being there. No matter what your job was, Stevie treated you as an artist. She gave her friends pieces of gold jewelry in the shapes of crescent moons.

But beyond the singing, the rock stardom, and the fairy tale environment Stevie created, she sat at the piano and wrote. She would buy a blue lamp that fit into the fairy tale decor of her house and filter the image through her brain and turn it into a song. We all loved Cocteau's classic film, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, but she turned it into a musical masterpiece. Unlike many other songwriters, there were no esoteric books or rhyming dictionaries in Stevie's homes. She really just stared off into space and came up with the stuff herself...we basked in her glow.

A few record companies passed on Modern Records because they'd been told Stevie's solo stuff would be "artsy-craftsy," not muscular commercial music like Fleetwood Mac's. But one executive believed and took the plunge -- Doug Morris, recently ensconced as President of Atco, a division of Atlantic Records. One night I brought him to a demo studio where Stevie was recording yet more of her voluminous output. Doug leaned over to me, entranced but dearly worried about his investment, and said "You'd better get her a producer."

I only knew one record producer and luckily it was Jimmy Iovine who had just produced Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' "Damn The Torpedos," and had produced Patti Smith's "Because The night," and engineered Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run," all records that Stevie loved. Stevie had moved yet again, this time to a condo on the beach in Marina Del Ray. One night she played Jimmy some songs on her piano there and walked with him along the Pacific Ocean and "Bella Donna" was born.

Jimmy could appreciate the poetry and the melody -- and of course, THE VOICE, but he came from years of working at the Record Plant, New York's famed recording studio that had spawned a hundred hits. Jimmy did not want to wear a gold moon. When Stevie said to him, "You're very Rhiannon," Jimmy snapped back, "No I'm not!" What Stevie and Jimmy did share was the dream of having a hit album.

"Bella Donna," released in 1981, became a number one album and has sold eight million copies to date. Stevie became one of the few artists to maintain careers both as a member of a group, and as a suceessful solo artist.

It turned out that the melodies and poetry Stevie Nicks plucked from her subconscious, as she sat at the piano, inspired and moved a generation. There were no riot girls, no Madonna, no Spice Girls, no Lilith Fair in 1981. Later we would learn that artists Courtney Love and Sheryl Crow, and millions of teenage girls and women wanted to grow up to be like Stevie Nicks. Teenage boys and men, of course, wanted to meet someone just like her.

Over the years, countless people have asked me what Stevie Nicks is "really like," and I always say, with the biggest smile, "Exactly what you think."

"The feeling remains even after the glitter fades..."

Danny Goldberg,
New York, January 28th, 1998

No one heard her call his name
No one heard the sounds she made
He wouldn't have liked it much anyway
To know that she still loves him...

Has anyone ever written anything for you?
In all your darkest hours...
Did you ever hear me sing?

You love her
But you love your life alone as well
But do you know the road...
Or the reasons why...
If you lose her...
You'll be losing the chance to stay alive
The candle burns bright,
Then the candle dies

Why can't I do it this way?

Come on Jimmy, please...

I could make it worth your while...

Or not...

So tonight I fianlly met Kenny G.
He is as everyone has said to me...sort of a little angel...
This one night even be a priest of something

Be aware of the danger, as you cross the great water
Be careful of strangers that are new to your eyes
Be careful of people who look not straight at you...
The keeper of time is blind

To all the producers...with love, - Stevie

...as usual, I am sitting here in the beautiful bathroom...my sanctuary...
Through THE GOOD TIMES, and Through THE BAD TIMES,
and many of my favorite songs have been written right here in this very room, the famous ones...
the ones you hear on the radio...

And I,
Like some kind of
TIME/LIFE Edition...
Tradition...
Competition...
Being the ONLY thing
That i really have to remember;
The great singers,
And great players...

Thank you...

Kicking up some gold dust with those platform boots...
Review written by Jon the Moonspinner, February 16th, 2010

The inclusion of a rocking live track, "Gold and Braid" (a song Stevie never recorded for an album proper), is reason enough to buy "Enchanted", which is otherwise burdened by album tracks we all love, but we all already have. Nice to get the soundtrack selections "Free Fallin'", "Battle of the Dragon", "Blue Lamp", a redo of "Twisted" (from "Twister"), "Sleeping Angel", and "Somebody Stand By Me" all on one pleasurable disc, but the other two discs are a messy collection of this 'n that.

A FEW MAC SONGS WOULD'NT HAVE GONE A MISS!!
Review written by NICK, August 16th, 2004

UP UNTIL WE GET THE DEFINITIVE STEVIE MAC & SOLO BOX SET WILL HAVE TO DO, BUT THERE IS FAR,FAR TOO MUCH OF BELLA DONNA & THE WILD HEART, IF SOME OF THESE HAD BEEN DEMO'S OR ALTERNATE VERSIONS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE REWARDING. BUY THIS FOR CD NO.3.

This one gets a grade of "Incomplete"
Review written by Zabe, August 16th, 2004

A friend of mine has this set, and I was checking out the track-listing to see whether I wanted a copy for myself. Looks like the hits are there. There appears to be a good number of b-sides and soundtrack songs here. Some decent album cuts (although why "Think About It" is missing is a baffling mystery) found their way onto this collection. And then there's the duets. On this package you get Tom Petty, Kenny Loggins, Don Henley, and John Stewart. But where, oh where is "I Pretend", the duet she performed with Sandy Stewart on Stewart's "Cat Dancer" album? This glaring omission is the one reason I will never purchase "Enchanted".
