A Magnificent Gem from the Deluxe Edition of Say You Will
Review written by TheFabulousThomasJ from Decatur, Illinois USA, May 10th, 2007

Recently I acquired a copy of the deluxe edition of Fleetwood Mac's 2003 album SAY YOU WILL, with a bonus CD of four unreleased tracks.

I must say, the Mac has been holding out on us!

Among the unreleased tracks was a Stevie Nicks song entitled "Not Make Beleive" and for me, this is the strongest song she has written in years.

With a driving musical track lovingly produced by Lindsey Buckingham, the song cruises beautifully in a way that the best Beach Boys records used to do back in the 1960's.

And yet, the lyrics speak different from the music being played. Stevie sings longingly of situations being "sometimes, it was heavenly/sometimes it was too heavy", and yet, the chorus "I'm not make believe then, I'm not make believe now. . .I didn't understand then, but I understand now".

Yes, it's Stevie at her cryptic best, but, man!

This song blows "Gypsy", "Sara" and "Edge of Seventeen" out of the water.

This should have been released to radio. I play it for my friends and they just love it!
