I live next door to you, I have known you all my life,
We've sat and watched the world go by
Then a voice from above said we're not just the same, you believe in a God and we don't recognise his name
Yes my Religion tells me so

So when we bow our heads, with fear in our hearts, well I don't frighten easily
But as I turned to leave I saw Satan laugh at Religion...

Religion, well if you were God, you were God now, think about it...
Would you be pleased with your creation?

Just like a sister I have loved you
Now my religion says I must kill you, kill you now
With a gun, with a knife I must take your life, with a rock, with a stone I must break your bones
Yes, my Religion tells me so...

So when we bow our head, forgiveness is blessed, but I don't forgive easily
And as I turned to leave I saw Satan laugh at Religion...

Religion, well if you were God, you were God now, think about it...
Religion, Religion, well if you were God, if you were God now think about it....
Would you be pleased with your creation? With your creation? Oh no.

Spaniel Songs Ltd. Deborah Bonham: 'When news broke out about the war in what was then Yugoslavia I was sitting on a train travelling to the South Coast of England. I remember it well because as I looked out over the countryside, I thought of the terror that these people were suffering and experiencing at that very moment I was happily travelling to visit family. It has always confused me as to the reason why wars have begun over religion. The mere idea is a contradiction in itself. Whatever or whoever your God may be, I have always believed that the common thread that unites us all is 'God is love'. If we believe that and do unto others etc., then there would be no war. Having discussed this topic with Mo (on one of the many evenings that he would sit and listen to me express my opinions over a bottle of wine!), he said somehing that had a profound effect on me. He mused on how religion could have such a strong hold over people that they could resort to killing and maiming friends and neighbours they had known all of their lives.....'
