We took our arrangement directly from the Bill Monroe record, though we made it swing a bit more in a Tulsa sort of way (Bill Monroe and The Texas Playboys?). If you want to hear some of the greatest hillbilly hollerin' ever, listen to Bill's record. I'm proud to say original Asleep at the Wheel piano player Floyd Domino is hanging around Tractor land these days. This piano part is the very first thing he played with the band. I looked over at him feeling the presence of Bob Wills piano man, Al Strickland. Before I could say anything, Floyd said, "I just try to channel Al." I tried my best to get the words right-the way they are on the Bill record. Other versions don't sing it this way, and I may be wrong, but here's the way I hear it. Amen. | Appears On | |
