Chorus:
Oooo... Midnight Flyer
Engineer, won't you let your whistle moan
Oooo... Midnight Flyer
Paid my dues and I feel like travelin' on

A runaway team of wild horses ain't enough to make me stay
So throw your rope on another man and pull him down your way
Make him into someone to take the place of me
Make him ev'ry kind of fool you wanted me to be

(Chorus)

Maybe I'll stop in Sante Fe... maybe San Antone
Any town is where I'm bound... any way to get me gone
Don't think about me... never let me cross your mind
'Cept when you hear that midnight lonesome whistle whine

(Chorus)

Rocky Top Music, Hendersonville, TN, BMI Paul Craft: Written for the Osborne Brothers for them to sing their great harmony on... The Eagles \"covered\" their version, during a very exciting time in my life. (Linda Ronstadt also recorded a thing of mine.) The first line of the first verse was inspired by Bob Dylan\'s \"Basement Tapes,\" then just a bootleg. I figured if he could write about clothes hanging on a clothesline, I could write about \"a runaway team of wild horses.\" It turned out I could. Also, I had been looking for a chance to use the phrase \"paid my dues\" in a song.
