Chorus:
You wrote "Your Cheatin' Heart" about a gal like my first ex-wife
And you moaned the blues for me and for you
Hank Williams, you wrote my life

A "Cold, Cold Heart" and a doubtful mind
I have known a few myself
And the gal that loved me "Half as Much"
As she loved somebody else

(Chorus)

I've heard that blue old whippoorwill, too
And the lonesome whistle whine
And I know that feelin'... so cold, so real
When "The Blues Come Around" at midnight

We never met, I know, and yet
I know you well, my friend
And if ever I get to heaven on high
I hope you'll shake my hand (because)

(Chorus)

Acuff-Rose Music, BMI Paul Craft: I had just broken up with my girlfriend and was packing to move to Nashville... a textbook example of trying to "take on too much." I had gotten a big stack of Hank Williams reissue albums and decided I would copy all of his lyrics into a spiral notebook between periods of packing boxes. It seemed like a reasonable thing to do right then. It struck me that Hank and I had gone through some of the same stuff (him not recently, me very recently).
