ATLANTIC RECORDS AND BORDEAUX WINES:
Like great Bordeaux wines, Atlantic LPs have always held a special magic for me: from the front cover, through the liner notes to the wonderful sound engineered by great sound wizards like Tom Dowd (who became also a great producer) and by legendary producers like Ahmet Ertegun, Nesuhi Ertegun and Jerry Wexler, not forgetting Joel Dorn and Arif Mardin.
Nobody would ever think of modifying the label of a great Bordeaux, or of adding sugar, spices, or color to it. Similarly, in preparing these series, we felt it was important to remain faithful to the release's original integrity, reproducing all artwork, liner notes, and the classic Atlantic sound newly remastered for CD.
CLAUDE NOBS
While I was still a student in the late '40s and decided to start a record label, it had been my dream to be able to record some jazz and blues music. I was motivated by my love for the music and eager to make historically important recordings, as well as recordings that people would want to buy.
50 years later, I look back on a career which fortunately includes many historic records, a career I could never have envisioned when I started. Not just in jazz and blues, but in every style of popular music that we have known.
This album is one of 50 titles that are being reissued to commemorate Atlantic's 50th Anniversary, a series that includes some great moments in the history of the label. It has been a wonderfully short and exciting five decades.
