I woke up Tuesday morning and I realized real soon,
When the sun was up at midnight, and there was darkness at high noon.
I must've been in a third dimension, a world or two away,
Where everything is backwards, upside down in every way.
In this alternate universe, the sun spins around.
The birds live in water, and rain comes from the ground.
And Mel Gibson bags my groceries, and he seems so out of place.
And some guy named Ralph's a household name, but I don't recognize his face.
And I say, "Thank ya there, Mad Max," but he just looks at me all weird.
And I pay my bill with peanuts to the nice lady with the beard,
I drive by Starbucks Coffee, but it's ice cream that they sell.
I see you through the window; I go inside to wish you well.
But you seem to look right through me, and it's clear that you don't see.
This you that stands before me now; you never married me.
And then I get to thinking, in this world so off it's course,
If you and I weren't married, then we never went through that divorce.
And you never left me waiting that rainy night at Captain D's.
And you never called me later from a room down on The Keys.
And your eyes, they never drifted, our romance didn't start.
This you here never knew me, so you never broke my heart.
I walk out of Starbucks Ice Cream, take one last look where you are,
And I drive down Charles Manson Street and have Elvis wash my car.
But I wake up in the real world, and it's back to the routine.
Mel Gibson's face is big as life on People Magazine.
And it's nice to know there's someplace where my heart has never been.
Where my inside's looking outward and my outside's looking in.
And there'll be jelly beans for breakfast and rich vegetable desserts.
And it's almost like it's over, and my heart, it barely hurts.
And the rain is falling down again, the rain is falling down.
