If I've been acting just a little strange
And you have noticed it too
It's 'cos my life has been rearranged
With the presence of you

The sky is the limit now
We can hit it on the nail
And when we do
I'll think about you
How can we fail

Can you give me one reason why
You'd ever let me down
I won't believe it baby, but I'll try
The truth's goin' to come around

The sky is the limit now
We can hit it on the nail
And when we do
I'll think about you
How can we fail
The sky is the limit
Oh the sky is the limit
How can we fail

Sooner or later
I'll keep the promise
I made to you
Sooner or later
It will be greater
Then we ever knew

The sky is the limit now
We can hit it on the nail
And when we do
I'll think about you

The sky is the limit now
We can hit it on the nail
And when we do
I'll think about you
How can we fail
The sky is the limit
Oh the sky is the limit
How can we fail

Oh the sky is the limit
How can we fail
The sky is the limit
Oh the sky is the limit
How can we fail
The sky is the limit
Oh the sky is the limit
How can we fail
The sky is the limit
Oh the sky is the limit
How can we fail
The sky is the limit

"Skies The Limit", one of Christine McVie's 4 songs from Fleetwood Mac's 1990 release, Behind The Mask, is an inspirational, positive, romantic song which is more likely than not, about Christine's husband, Eddy Quintela.

Since their meeting in 1984 or so, Christine and Eddy have been head over heels in love with each other. They married in 1986, but couldn't really settle down because Christine was still in Fleetwood Mac. This song is her telling him her love for him and telling him that she's ready to let go of Fleetwood Mac for awhile and settle down.

"If I've been acting just a little strange.
And you have noticed it too.
It's 'cos my life has been rearranged,
with the presence of you.
Here, Christine is saying that she's changed but all for the better since meeting Eddy. She's saying all this directly to him. He has changed her life but you can definitely tell she's more than happy being with him. He's noticed this change in her, and is probably questioning her reasoning, and she's reassuring him that he's what she's always wanted.

"The sky is the limit now.
We can hit it on the nail.
And when we do,
I'll think about you.
How can we fail?"
Christine is saying that with Eddy by her side, anything and everything is possible. There is nothing in the world that can hold them back, for they have true love.

Sometimes, when people are alone, they are afraid to fail. And when they do fail, they think they're failures that are not worthy of success. So when and if they do pull themselves out of this lull, it takes time to do so. But when you happen to fail at something with a different person, it doesn't seem so bad because both of you are in the same position. Chances are, one person will make the other one (and vice versa) realize that they're not failures, they just didn't succeed at what they were trying to do this time.

The meaning of all this is that when she says that she'll think about him, it's almost as if she's excited at the prospect of failing because she'll have him at her side, someone really special, who will work through things with her. Before, she failed by herself because she had no one to back her up but now, she has Eddy and together, they can get through anything.

"Can you give me one reason why,
you never let me down.
I won't believe it baby, but I'll try.
The truth's goin' to come around."
Possibly, Eddy had his doubts as to roll in Christine's new found happiness and feels as if somehow, he will let Christine down. But Christine has so much trust and love for him that the possibility of them letting each other down seems unlikely.

She's saying that there is no way that he can bring her down. She will not let her insecurities bother her because this is the real deal. Christine knows that he was meant for her and vice versa. She is giving Eddy the confidence to see what he has done for her and that it will all work out in the end.

There are two quotes from Bob Brunning's latest book (Fleetwood Mac: The First 30 Years), said by Christine about her relationship with Eddy:

"It's the most fun relationship I've had in a long time."

"I'm not saying we'll get married, but I won't be pessimistic.

It depends so much on the man. Eddy is very different from my first husband, John. He's ten years younger than I am, but he's stable, mature and fun. We're very good friends, and we laugh together. I'd probably be irritated by an unintelligent, immature younger man, but an amusing, sensitive, thirty-year-old is wonderful! We've known each other since I made my solo album. He's Portuguese, and a great musician."

"The sky is the limit now.
We can hit it on the nail.
And when we do,
I'll think about you.
How can we fail?
The sky is the limit.
Oh the sky is the limit.
How can we fail?"
Again, Christine is saying that together, she and Eddy can do anything and noting is out of reach. If they believe in themselves and in their love, they can accomplish anything. They can reach for the stars and as long as their hearts are in the right place, there is no possibility that they can fail in life.

"Sooner or later,
I'll keep the promise
I made to you.
Sooner or later,
it will be greater,
than we ever knew."
Christine is now ready to live out the wedding vows she gave to Eddy four years earlier. She hasn't had a chance because Fleetwood Mac has always been lurking right behind her. She's directing this part at the band. It's a definite sign that she's got something up her sleeve because during this tour, she (along with Stevie) announced her departure from Fleetwood Mac.

She's explaining that once she's through with her superstar life, she will become the woman that Eddy married, what seemed, so long ago. Then she won't be the big rock star that is only home for holidays and a few weeks out of the year. Once she's settled as Mrs. Eduardo Quintela de Mendonca and not Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, there's no stopping her relationship with Eddy. It will continue to soar and be better than it ever has been. And when she says "Sooner or later, it will be greater than we ever knew.", she could be referring to when they get older. They can just enjoy having somebody to grow old with. And this seems to be the best redemption for taking those marriage vows. Therefore, the promise *will* be greater then they ever knew.

"The sky is the limit now.
We can hit it on the nail.
And when we do,
I'll think about you.
The sky is the limit now.
We can hit it on the nail.
And when we do,
I'll think about you,
How can we fail?
The sky is the limit.

Oh the sky is the limit.
How can we fail?
The sky is the limit.
Oh the sky is the limit.
How can we fail?
The sky is the limit.
Oh the sky is the limit.
How can we fail?
The sky is the limit.
Oh the sky is the limit.
How can we fail?
The sky is the limit."

No matter what, as Christine is saying, nothing can stop her and Eddy and their love. She'll always think of him for all he has given her: a new outlook on life and something to look forward to. She keeps repeating this just to make sure that Eddy gets all that she's trying to say.

For the first time in ages, Christine McVie is truly happy. She owes a lot of it to Eddy Quintela. He has changed her life and she loves him all the more for it. And they both know that for them, the sky is the limit.

(The interpretations to these lyrics were compiled through discussions on the message boards of the Penguin, The Ledge. It is entirely possible that the artists had something completely different in mind.)
