Lasts Well Review written by Anonymous, June 17th, 2011 I'm slowly digitizing the 1800+ albums I've been carting around for 40 years. I recently listened to IS ALIVE for the first time in over 20 years. I am impressed with not only how good the sound is on the album but also how "clean" the recording was at the Troubadour. Just two years after the release of Alone Together, these recordings do justice to both his Traffic days as well as solo career.
Dave in his prime Review written by George, May 10th, 2006
I've been a Dave Mason fan for many years with great thanks to my friend Dave from Wisconsin. Like another review states it's a intimate setting at the Troubadour in L.A. kinda like the Park West in Chicago. Very good recording, mixed well. I have Certified Live as well and I like this album much better. One thing noteworthy, you really need to get the album Headkeeper to compliment this one. There are three songs on side two(the live side) that are not on D. M. is Alive. If anyboby knows where I can get this on CD please e-mail me choppersforever@sbcglobal.net
Dave may disagree but this is a great live set Review written by John Fitzgerald, October 13th, 2004
Although Dave denounces this record, this album nonetheless has a great live sound but not in a bombastic way, it's a more intimate setting which makes for a good soft rock guitar feel. The opener "Walk to the point" is surprisingly the best part and is just as good as the studio version but in a different way as it doesn't have the harmonies of Cass Elliot, it now relies on the melody itself which works very well and shows how wonderfully written it is. There isn't a bad performance however, one may be disappointed in that the same recordings of "Just a song" & "Feelin' alright" from "Headkeeper" appear here so it would make sense for MCA to release this as a 2 on 1 CD repackage with "Headkeeper" but that remains to be seen.
