The tracks from WIRES FROM THE BUNKER have never been released before on CD. John Stewart wrote many of the tracks after he recorded, with contributions from Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, the album Gold. This album has been personally compiled by John Stewart and is significant for him as it is the first time many of these recordings have been released.
Most of John Stewart's album titles relate to his homeland with classics such as American Journey, California Bloodlines and Airdream Believer. This album has none of the romanticism of these titles, but presents his emotional exhaustion and tiredness at the time of producing an album. Most of the tracks were produced just after John and Stevie Nicks (who was the lead singer with Fleetwood Mac) had had a huge hit with the track Gold. With all the mayhem of dealing with record companies and managers, working 18 hour days, it felt like a war zone, hence the album is aptly named "WIRES FROM THE BUNKER".
Biography
John Stewart was born on 5 September 1939, San Diego, California, USA. His musical career began in the 50s when, as frontman of the Furies, he recorded 'Rocking Anna' for a tiny independent label. Having discovered folk music, Stewart began performing with college friend John Montgomery, but achieved wider success as a songwriter when several of his compositions, including 'Molly Dee' and 'Green Grasses', were recorded by the Kingston Trio. Indeed, the artist joined this prestigious group in 1961. He then left the Kingston trio in 1967. His reputation was enhanced when a new composition, 'Daydream Believer', became a number I hit for the Monkees. In 1968 John was joined by singer Buffy Ford, whom he married in 1975. Together they completed Signals Through The Glass, before the former resumed his solo path with the excellent California Bloodlines. This country-inspired collection established Stewart's sonorous delivery and displayed a view of America which, if sometimes sentimental, was both optimistic and refreshing. John Stewart's fortunes were upturned in 1979 when a duet with Stevie Nicks, 'Gold', became a US hit. John Stewart subsequently turned from commercial pursuits and has resumed a more specialist direction.
